Sunday cooking : Ginger biscuit tartlet filled with coconut, white chocolate and vanilla ganache and topped with fruits stewed in orange juice!

, , , , , , , , ,

Sundays are best if you want to spend a lazy, experimental time in the kitchen. Today was one such day where I wanted to try out some tarts in my new non-stick tart molds!

So I whizzed a packet of digestive biscuits with a pinch of dry ginger powder and 3 knobs of butter. Pressed the mixture onto the tart molds and kept in the freezer to harden.

I then melted (using a double boiler) some white chocolate with butter, a teaspoon or two of sugar and possibly 3/4th a cup of coconut milk. I also added some orange rind (a tsp) and a dash of vanilla essence. Cooled it to room temp and whipped it with a spoon until smooth and like a ganache!

For the stewed fruits, I sliced and diced 1 each of a banana(you just have to have a banana!), guava(amazing and in season here in India) and musk melon(always a delight to have in tarts and pastries!) and juiced 1 orange. I tossed the fruits in half a lemon’s juice and a few drops of rose water! Then a small saucepan was used to boil the orange juice with 3 tsp of sugar and 1/4th a cup of water. Reduced it a bit. Couldn’t get it thick and syrupy, was still light and runny.

Added the fruits in let it simmer for a while until slightly soft. Eventually it thickened and got glossy with the addition of half a tsp of butter(yumm).

To assemble, unmold the tart shell and freeze it for a further 10 minutes. This ensures, the biscuit is not super delicate and crumbly. Take it out and put it on your serving plate. Spoon in some luscious coconut white chocolate ganache in the centre up to 1/2 the depth. Top with the fruits generously and drizzle some fruity syrup on top! Finally spoon another dollop of ganache!

This really was the best tart I’d ever eaten! Not because, I made it, well you could say that, but because it really was so lovely, light, luscious and not overly sweet! I could go on and on about it, but why don’t you try this and let me know! πŸ™‚

Mini Makeup Reviews- Rimmel,Lakme and Essence~Inexpensive yet high performance

, , , , , , , , , , ,

Wow..I’m back to my little old blog after, like what,3 months? And the products I’m going to talk about, I bought them about 2 months ago..haha! So much for being prompt and dedicated! Ho Hummmmm…Now that I’m back let’s talk about these beauties anyway? πŸ™‚

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in shade Classic Beige: I’m probably the last person to buy this foundation. But I’m glad I did! Better late than never, right? Right! The reason I went for this one is because it’s marketed as a luminous foundation with skin tone adjusting properties. I really like this foundation because it’s medium coverage, gives a nice, radiant look to my skin and it’s pretty fine on the lightness of texture. When applied with fingers it’s dewy, when applied with a damp blending sponge, it dries to a sheer, almost matte finish. Howver if you’re moisturizer is a super hydrating one, this can get greasy in a while. Use a light gel based one. I use Forest Essentials’ aloe vera gel and it’s perfect.

30ml for Rs.645 I think, pretty affordable for a good quality foundation!! Psst..It’s also ‘the’ dupe of YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat foundation!!

Essence I Love Extreme Volume mascara: A good basic mascara with a good, solid wand. Nothing fancy, curved, flimsy or finicky. I do like its ease of use and decent results which are everyday-wear friendly without too dramatic a result, however once it has dried, it flakes and I can spot one or two black flakes around my eye area..eww..I don’t know if what I have is an old one or what, but that’s no good. If not for this eww thing, I’d repurchase this product! Or maybe I’m piling on too much? Hmm, need to think.. :/

Essence I Love Style eyeliner: Wish all eye liners came with a fabulous, firm brush like this one! Not the blackest of liners out there, but a liquid liner with a brush that doesn’t dance around and mess up your looks + super duper easy to apply, what more could I ask for? Best for thick, winged liners! This one was for Rs.230 odd. Cheap cheap cheap!

Essence matte compact bronzer: Dupe for The Body Shop Honey Bronze matte bronzer. I love bronzers which have an apricot, bronze/brown color and a matte finish! When paying Rs.1800 for the TBS one didn’t seem reasonable, I chanced upon this essence one & thank god, at Rs.325 it’s the exact dupe! No I don’t care about honey in my bronzer, it’s really ok you know? πŸ™‚

Essence Eyebrow liner pencil in brown : I wanted a break from my NYC brow powder (which by the way is great!) and bought this liner. It’s creamy, yet not smudgy and is a true brown colour. Even the brush at the other end is not bad! I however use a spoolie.

Essence Nude Glam nail polish (sorry forgot the colours 😦 ) : It’s a great nude color for the nails!!! It’s exactly the same as my nail but better! Fast drying as well. πŸ™‚

Lakme Instaliner : This liner at Rs.85 a bottlet is perhaps the most purchased liner in the country. Cheap, jet black, glossy and super thin brush. Creates smooth, thin lines. Great for daily use and perfect in case you’re wanting to practice before moving on to more expensive liners.

Leaving you’ll with a swatch paper:

And thatΒ  would be it guys! I really enjoy using these products on a daily basis. I’ll be back soon with a new list of ‘hauled’ makeup and skincare goodies! Take care πŸ™‚

New skincare and haircare favorites!

, , , , , , ,

Wow! How long has it been since I last blogged? 2 months? Long time to keep away from something I once loved the most -writing.

But that’s what priorities in life do to you, somethings at times need to hit the backseat as you take the driver’s.. So I’m back today, finally to share with you’ll my new favorites! And hopefully, I’ll be a regular again, posting as frequently as I used to πŸ™‚

L’orΓ©al Mythic Oil hair mask – After my TBS hair butter debacle, this is my first decent hair mask. And by decent I actually mean good! I use it once ot twice a week and when kept exactly for 3 minutes, makes my hair super soft, even the hair ends!

Organix Thick & Full Biotin & Collagen Root Boost spray – This works. Period. You want to know more? It actually gives my fine scanty hair some major, believable volume and keeps it soft!

AvΓ¨ne eau thermale or thermal spring water – Yes, I joined the bandwagon. And I love it! So refreshing and definitely calms post waxing/tweezing bumps, itchy bug bites and sets makeup too. Although it’s a great product, you can easily skip it if you use rose water! But you must try this once! One of the beauty secrets, French women swear by.

Soulflower pure carrier oils of argan and rosehip – I’m in love with these oils!! Argan oil in its pure form is great as a pre wash treatment with coconut oil and post wash mixed with my serum! Rosehip oil is my night time skin treat and it works at keeping my skin soft and marks fade, eventually of course. I even use it under makeup as a daytime moisturizer and it works.

Dirty Works Rose and Glow moisture mask – My second face mask after Lush’s Magnaminty. It softens beautifully and has this amazing rose scent! Β My only gripe? Although the ingredients are clean, Β where the hell’s the rose in it?? Is it just fragrance? If I were to ignore that, it is a good weekend face mask with collagen and hyaluronic acid etc! πŸ™‚

So what are your new favorites this year? Share up or better still, post it on your blog and share the link here! I’d love to see some pictures! πŸ™‚

My favorite 2013 beauty finds : Makeup

, , , , , , , , , , , ,

Hey everyone! Today’s post is about my favorite makeup products in 2013. They are all necessarily products purchased last year. I’ve included face products, cheek stuffs and eye/lip products that I absolutely loved using and still do!Β

Colorbar Perfect Match Primer

A fabulous gel primer that really smoothes my skin. Love it.

Lakme CC Cream in Bronze

I haven’t been wearing much foundation over the past few months due to my skin being quite problematic with chickenpox scars, acne and scars and stuff. I have been majorly relying on BB creams and tinted moisturizers for base and my trusted old MAC concealer for spot coverage. However, Lakme’s CC cream won it for me with it’s perfect color match and medium coverage.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in 009 Amber:

Perfect shade match and oil control. Need I say more?

Colorbar Stay The Day Finishing Mist:

I love this makeup setting mist for giving me a wonderful glow and prolonging the stay of my makeup. It’s a MAC Fix+ dupe and yay for being a product with no parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, phtalates yada yada..and it’s vegan and anti-animal cruelty. Yay for that!! Only problem is that the bottle is a bit inconvenient to use since the nozzle sprays weirdly. I’ll be transferring a little to a small spray bottle. I also loved MUA’s Pro Base fixing mist for the matte look it gave but I’m sad it’s over and so thought of not including it here. 😦

Benefit Watt’s Up highlighter:

I’ll seriously cry the day this gets over.Seriously. I’m so scared of over using and emptying the stick that I use it like once a week or something? Yes I’m crazy but this product is genius! You just cannot go wrong with this champagne shade! It really looks like you’re glowing from within.

Accessorize Laguna bronzer/highighter duo:

I love the warm shimmery (slight not crazy shimmer) bronzer shade and the light highlighting shade as well! Works beautifully to make your face glow!

Lotus Herbals Purestay blusher in Rose Kiss:

Lovely muted peachy pink color that just brings my face to life! Looks so fresh and innocent! I think it’s a dupe for MAC’s Peach(es?) blush.

Maybelline The Falsies Volum mascara:

My favorite mascara ever. Even more favorite than the Colossal πŸ˜‰

MUA Undress Me Too eyeshadow palette:

Eeeps I love this one! Lovely neutral colors that are so everyday and party smokey kind of. And it’s UD Naked’s dupe! Lol who needs the original when you got ’em dupes πŸ˜›

Revlon balm stain in Honey:

I love the mauve-y pinkish everyday kinda of color the balm gives and the deep rosy stain it leaves behind. Perfect MLBB (my lips but better) shade for me! And the minty fresh fragrance, mm yum!

So that was it from my 2013 makeup favorites! All these products are suitable for acne prone skin since I’ve personally used them consistently before listing them and trust me, you wouldn’t want to catch me bare faced, I have shitty acne strategically spread across my face! Hope you’ll give these products a try and you’ll also enjoy using them as I did and still do! πŸ™‚

A brand, spankin’ new haul- Forever 21, MAC and Lotus Herbals + beauty blender dupe!!!

, , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Hello all! Hope you’ll had a great first week of the new year! I had a fun one too! Went shopping and dining with my best friends and we did haul a lot! So here’s probably what you can call my first haul in the year 2014..however I refrain from using this phrase in my title for whatever reason..

The things I bought are from Forever 21(literally my treasure chest or anyone’s;who loves a little nifty beauty n fashion shopping!), MAC and featuring some Lotus Herbals which I had purchased earlier.

Cheesy text, I know πŸ˜›

I got this tee from F21..pretty thing!

Purestay foundation from Lotus Herbals and Purecolor lipstick from the same brand as well..This foundation actually requires a detailed review from my experience with it, I guess..Although I bought it after going through the reviews, they seem to be a tad bit too positive (paid product for reviews, perhaps? I dunno). However, I’m not saying it’s bad or something..but it can be horrible if you use it incorrectly..when used right as I later learnt by practice, it can give the much desired velvety matte look.Cheers to that!Image

It’s a swatch! :/

And now my favorites- a bright tangerine and a sheer, soft coral! The one on the left is Lotus Pure Colors lipstick in Tangerine(a bright orange+red+coral) and my eternal favorite, MAC’s See Sheer..I have dreamt of owning this one for over a year and my god, how right I was in buying it! Lovely sheer pink+coral! This makes me wonder,if I should display my meager lipstick collection πŸ˜€Image

A genius find from F21!!! Eeeeeps I’m so happy!!!! A travel bottle set! It has a spray nozzle, pump nozzle and 2 press button cap bottles!!ImageImage

A cute 2 sided mirror again from F21 for my office makeup pouch!Image
And now, presenting my most unexpected find of all in F21- a Beauty Blender dupe at Rs.250!!!!! Can you believe it??? A roughly $4 dupe of the original $18 stuff? Get outta here!! πŸ˜€Image

So that was pretty much it!!! I loved this haul of mine right from the tee to the egg sponge, L.O.V.E.Β I tag all you guys, post your first haul of 2014 and share its link in the comments below! πŸ™‚

Winter skin care routine and products used.

, , , ,

Happy new year guys! This my first post in the new year! πŸ™‚

I love attending weddings and events. It’s the only time in the entire year when I get to dress up and feel a bit regal of sorts, or so I think..I could spend an eternity thinking of the dresses to wear and the makeup and jewelry to go along’s endless and mad! And I’m currently obsessed with acquiring clear, glowing skin or at least faking it! But we can’t talk about clear glowing skin in the winters without emptying tube after tube and bottle after bottle of creams and serums. Not to forget this masque and that overnight miracle! Phew..It’s surely more lunatic than me in wedding season! Which is why I felt it was the need of the hour to line up, evaluate and recycle my skincare for this weather. If it is not good enough, it’s not cutting it.Simple. And keeping that philosophy in mind, I’ve zeroed in, on a few skincare products, store bought or natural, which I think are essential for maintaining great, glowy skin despite having a face full of problems and acne and problems.

When all else fails, YOGURT is where you turn your prayers towards. It’s without doubt the most potent skin healer around. All that other organic skincare lines do is extract its properties and sell it off as something unheard of, a genius! Nah, not for me thank you. You cannot possibly get more organic than homemade yogurt out of the refrigerator, can you? πŸ™‚ It makes your skin plump, soft, glowing apart from healing all the tanning and acne issues. And all these are for what? 20 minutes’ absorption time? It’s criminal to ignore this wonder ingredient.

Honey is my favorite when it comes to getting clear, bright, refreshed skin. It has this gentle cleansing and exfoliating property that would leave you spellbound with its after effects! It is my latest skin crush and acne savior. I apply it daily for 20 minutes or more and wash it off. I’m left with lesser pimples and brighter, softer skin with each use. I’ve come to a point where I feel empty if I’m not wearing my honey mask in its sticky sweet glory! Love the honey and yogurt combination. When it comes to face washes, nothing beats a soap free one for winter skin.

I of course agree that one needs to use a soapy foaming cleanser once a day, preferably after coming back from a busy day on the road, for a good deep cleansing. For other times I am loving The Natures Co Cool Cucumber face wash. It’s fully organic and soapfree. Cucumber is great for oily acane prone skin. It leaves my face feeling really fresh and not at all tight or dry. And with added natural good ingredients, top marks! I don’t scrub that often in winter, but when I do it’s my trusted yogurt oatmeal scrub from Lotus Herbals. Works well in polishing up my skin.

I’m not that keen on toners, but if I’m having a particularly bad skin day, I like to use either a non-alcohol toner or rose water. My goto toners, no matter what the weather, have always been from FabIndia. I use their tea tree toner which has salicyclic acid, neem and tee tree extracts along with turmeric extracts, great for problem skin! At times when I’ve seen an emerging pimple, I have gone to the extent of dabbing this toner on the spot and it subdued overnight! Well it happened only once, but hey! Now you know one more trick just in case! Also this toner is skin softening. Other than this, it’s pure rose water again from the same brand.Brilliant, soothing stuff and it’s absolutely pure without any other ingredients in it.

Finally face moisturizers. I really love this oil free moisturizer from Lotus Herbals called Alphamoist. I have been using this for close to 6 months and it happens to be the best moisturizer I’ve ever tried. It absorbs in an instant and leaves skin hydrated without any slippery film. Well if the former was for daytime, I use a homemade night time lotion which consists of rose water+glycerine+lemon juice. It is a wonderful night time lotion which is both healing, brightening and softening. And what’s more? It did not cost me a bomb! Stays for a month or more when refrigerated and works beautifully. All natural too, to top it all! In case I’m in need of an extra dose of moisture, I use my Vitamin E face oil from The Body Shop and it takes care of my dry spot and flakes! Sometimes I sneak up ob my mother’s skincare kit and use her favorite anti ageing cream, Garnier’s wrinkle lift cream. It smells divine, feels luxurious and is incredibly hydrating. Not to forget it is the most affordable and effective anti ageing cream out there! Believe me, I have seen proof, it works.

So that is pretty much it for my skin care. It remains pretty much the same throughout the year except for the addition of face oils, heavy moisturizers or softening toners.

In case you’ll are not that keen on going natural or maybe the smell of yogurt and honey irritates your noses, here are a few products that incorporate these ingredients and are known to be among the best creams/masks :

1. Forest Essentials Treatment Mask Purifying Yogurt : has many nourishing ingredients along with pure yogurt. Reviews are good for this product and you can read further read about it on the net.I too want to try this, my experience with other products from this brand has been excellent. And what’s more, they supply to the Taj the last time I checked! Truly luxurious!
2. Forest Essentials Madhulika Nourishing Lep : honey and other good ingredients in this natural product. Again reviews are good.
3. Korres Greek Yogurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial : A cult product that seems to be loved by all! I am dying to try this product! 😦

Well then I hope the list above helps and what is your winter skin care routine? Any products you’d like to recommend? πŸ™‚

A great pre wash treatment for glossy hair ~ honey + coconut oil

, , , , , , , , , , ,

This treatment is honestly what I discovered when I was Googling for at-home hair gloss kits. I have always been using coconut oil as a pre wash treatment once a week, before I shampoo. But adding honey was a first for me! I’ve seen honey being used in many commercial hair products as it has an excellent moisturizing ability due to its humectant property( retaining moisture) and I thought, why not!Β

So this pre wash treatment is pretty much mixing up honey and coconut oil in a 1:2 proportion. For my upper back length hair, a tbsp of honey with 2 tbsp of coconut oil is enough. So mix according to your hair’s length and density. It’s completely natural, so if you need more, by all means, use more! I use The Body Shop’s organic coconut oil with regular Dabur honey. Good stuff.

Apply all over your scalp and hair.Β

Wash it off with a good yet gentle shampoo and conditioner routine. I use The Nature’s Co Marigold cleanser and conditioner. It’s natural, organic and full of good-for-hair ingredients.
The result is hair that is glossy and moisturized. And I did notice that my hair was definitely a lil more glossy than with simply shampoo and conditioner.

The best part? You know that gloss is all yours without any additional shine creating hair product full of chemicals! πŸ™‚Β

Do give this treatment a try! You’ve got nothing to lose. Even if your hair doesn’t super glossy, it will atleast be super soft! πŸ™‚
